If you would like to be able to overcome your difficulty sleeping, here are some simple things you can do to prepare your body to beat insomnia and get a good night’s sleep.

1. Stop eating so much sugar. Do you really want to improve your sleep? Then remove sugar completely from what you eat. Most people have far too much sugar in their diet. Sugar negatively affects your body’s balance for a long time after you initially ingest it. When you eat sugary foods your body pours a whole bunch of different hormones into your bloodstream which stresses your body. The pancreas reacts immediately  by flooding your bloodstream with insulin which results in your body’s chemistry becoming so imbalanced that you can actually end up with a sleeping disorder.

2. Eliminate the foods your body reacts to. Although sugar is something almost everyone needs to remove from their diet, some people might want to remove many of the other things that other people consider healthy. These things include such things as soy and wheat. If your body does react negatively to these ingredients you’ll probably be surprised that not only will you be getting a better night’s sleep on a consistent basis, your entire demeanor will change. Don’t eat anything heavy in the evening. While you are at it, eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables.  Do this regularly and you’ll be able to overcome insomnia and start sleeping again.

3. Stay away from stimulants. The next thing you can do to beat insomnia and get your body ready for a good night’s sleep is staying away from stimulates like caffeine and those energy drinks that are so prevalent in the marketplace today. This is especially true after mid-afternoon. Stimulants affect everyone differently but most studies have found that if consumed after mid afternoon they can cause you difficulty sleeping.

4. Prepare your body for sleep. One of the simplest ways to help your body get ready to fall asleep is to take a nice warm shower or bath an hour or so before you go to bed. Not only does this clean your body, it also removes a lot of the pollen and other allergens off of your body. This reduces the possibility of allergic reactions, like coughing and sneezing that can cause trouble falling asleep.

5. Prepare your mind for sleep. When you’re getting ready to sleep learn to relax your mind. Stay away from movies or television programs that activate your emotions or over stimulate your mind. Try reading a relaxing book or some poetry. Some people find that listening to music or relaxation sounds such as recordings of water lapping on the shore or wildlife and bird sounds are helpful. Some people that are having difficulty sleeping find that aromatherapy helps. Other people use self hypnosis or hypnotic recordings are one of the best ways to fall asleep because it gets rid of their stress and anxiety.
