Being able to sleep is very important for a healthy lifestyle. I found that out personally when I was having difficulty sleeping. I also found out that it’s not just about the hours of sleep but rather the quality of your sleep. After all, merely tossing and turning in bed for 8 hours it won’t do you much good!
When you’re asleep, your body and mind receive the opportunity to repair and rejuvenate. Your body and mind need to do this daily. So getting a good night’s sleep isn’t just convenient, it’s downright important. But for many people sleep isn’t something that comes naturally to them anymore and they are looking for something to cure their insomnia. So how do you get a good night’s sleep?
If you want to beat insomnia you can go to the doctor and get a prescription. The problem with medications is that they are only addressing the symptom, your insomnia, and not the cause. 1. Start and stay on a fitness program. No matter what type of exercise you choose to do, make it a point to exercise a little every day. When you exercise during the day it causes your body to tire. A tired body craves rest at night. This allows you to fall asleep faster and spend more time in the deeper, most restful levels of sleep.
2. Eat your last meal earlier in the evening. In order to process and break down the food you eat, your body’s metabolism needs to kick into high gear. When you eat late, your body is still converting your food into energy when you’re trying to get your body to relax and go to sleep. With your body producing all that energy, it’s no wonder you can’t get a good night sleep!
3. Make and follow a nightly schedule. This is an excellent way to teach your body how to beat insomnia. By following a consistent schedule every evening where you take the time to wind down and get to bed at a certain time, your body is learning to automatically prepare for sleep. This results in a better and more restful night’s sleep.
4. Go outside and get some sun. This is one of the best natural cures for insomnia. Your circadian or internal clock is set when sunlight begins to create melatonin in your body. In order to keep your internal clock set to the right time, you need to get enough sunlight. If going outside is not possible, use a natural spectrum light bulb in the area where you spend most of your day.
5. Turn out the lights. When you go to bed at night, turn your lights out. When you leave the lights on you are giving your mind mixed signals which causes difficulty sleeping or even falling asleep. Sleep in a dark room, the darker the better. The best is a pitch black room. When light enters your room it can either affect your sleep patterns or make your body think it’s bright outside. This can simulate your circadian clock to think its sunrise, making it more difficult for you to fall and stay asleep.
6. Turn off the television, especially in your bedroom. Make a point not to watch television for at least an hour before going to sleep at night. If you watch TV in bed, there’s a good chance that you are stimulating your mind instead of relaxing it. Most shows on TV are geared toward engaging and stimulating viewers, not putting them to sleep.
In fact, it’s best to just get rid of the TV from your room entirely. This can actually be the cure for insomnia you’ve been looking for. Many studies have shown that even just having a TV in your room can disturb your sleep patterns, even if it’s turned off. This is because your brain associates your bedroom with a stimulating activity.
A good replacement for your TV is a noise machine that induces sleep. The best are those with white noise or crashing waves sounds that block out other auditory distractions that can cause you difficulty sleeping. These can quickly lull you to sleep with their constant droning sounds.
7. Read a relaxing book. Reading a book that helps you to relax can give your mind time to unwind. Relaxing at bedtime is a great natural cure for insomnia and relaxed reading is a useful tool to getting a better night’s sleep. When you read a book, you are removing yourself from your current situation. This allows your mind a temporary escape into another world, which can relax your mind and reduce your stress. Just remember not to read books that are too stimulating or that you “just can’t put down”.
8. Avoid daytime naps. If you nap during the day and you can’t sleep at night this might just be why you have difficulty sleeping. The whole trick to getting a better night’s sleep is to be tired when it’s time to go to bed. If you take a long nap during the day, when you’re ready to go to bed, your brain may not think you need the rest. Naps also reset your circadian clock and can force you into thinking day is night.
Having said that I have to admit I nap almost daily just to allow myself to recharge. The trick is that if you want to be able to sleep at night, keep your naps to 20 minutes or less.
9. Keep a journal. Writing down your thoughts can improve your sleep greatly. By getting things out of your mind and on to paper, you can keep from mentally re-living your day when you are trying to fall asleep, which is a great cure for insomnia. Also, write down your to-do’s and schedule for the next day the night before. This will keep you from trying to remember all the things you need to do tomorrow in your head.
If you are one of those people where ideas pop into your head at night, keep a note pad beside your bed. If you wake up in the middle of the night and remember something you can write it down and forget about it. This will allow you to get back to sleep instead of worrying about it, or forgetting it, by the next morning.
10. Remember that your bedroom is for sleeping. If you constantly do work or watch TV in bed, your mind may find it difficult to associate sleep with your bed. Keep it simple and use the bed for what it’s meant for, sleeping.

Aw, this was a very nice post. In concept I want to put in writing like this moreover – taking time and precise effort to make an excellent article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and not at all appear to get something done.
The subsequent time I learn a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I do know it was my choice to read, but I truly thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you might repair when you werent too busy in search of attention.
